Texas Windstorm Insurance Association to spend $1,300,000.00 to occupy 31,455 square feet of space in Austin Texas.
Austin, Texas — According to state and local economic development sources Texas Windstorm Insurance Association plans to invest $1,300,000.00 to build out 31,455 square feet of new space in Austin. The company plans to occupy the new space at 4801 Southwest Parkway, Suite 200 in Austin, on or about February 1, 2023. According to the company website We at Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) recognize the great responsibility that comes with providing insurance that plays an essential role in the lives of many Texans. TWIA was created to give coastal Texans access to wind and hail property insurance when no other insurer will provide it. After Hurricane Celia in 1970, enough insurers were excluding wind and hail coverage from their coastal insurance policies that it gained the attention of the Texas Legislature. The Legislature found that the provision of adequate windstorm and hail insurance was necessary to the economic welfare of Texas, and without that insurance, the orderly growth and development of the state would be severely impeded. To provide this essential insurance, the Legislature created TWIA in 1971. Today, TWIA provides insurance in the 14 counties along the coast from Jefferson to Cameron County.
