San Diego, California — According to state and local economic development sources VA San Diego Healthcare System plans to invest $12,434,341.50 to build out 131,446 square feet of new space in San Diego. The company plans to occupy the new space at 8875 Aero Dr in San Diego, on or about May 1, 2021. According to the company website The VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) provides high quality health care with advanced technologies and a commitment to friendly, compassionate service to more than 86,000 Veterans in the San Diego and Imperial Valley counties, with 244,421 Veterans living in the area. We provide medical, surgical, mental health, geriatric, spinal cord injury, and advanced rehabilitation services. VASDHS has 296 authorized beds, including skilled nursing beds and operates several regional referral programs including cardiovascular surgery and spinal cord injury. The facility also supports three Vet Centers at the following locations: Chula Vista, San Diego, and San Marcos. We are affiliated with the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine and provide training for 1,376 medical interns, residents and fellows, as well as 573 other clinical trainees, in areas such as nursing, pharmacy, dental and dietetics. VASDHS has one of the largest research programs in the VA nationally with a budget of $44.3 million (FY 2019), 211 principal investigators, and 676 projects.
